Open Positions

Open Faculty Position in Experimental, Applied Physics and Materials Science

Description

The Boston College Physics Department is a highly collaborative and dynamic environment with interdisciplinary research efforts in quantum materials, quantum sensing and information, nanophotonics, plasmonics, materials science, nonlinear optics, and biosensing (www.bc.edu/physics). Building on our four new hires since 2020, we now invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in experimental physics and materials science.  We are most interested in candidates working at the interface between fundamental and applied physics. Their expertise could be grounded in the fields of physics, materials science, device physics, or engineering, with the expectation that this colleague will contribute to the department's research program and the Applied Physics major. We particularly encourage applicants with an interest in developing collaborative research programs within our department and with colleagues in other departments, in line with the mission of the Boston College . Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field, with a proven track record of scientific and professional accomplishment, as well as an ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Successful candidates will be expected to develop world-class research programs, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and contribute significantly to the educational and service activities of the department and University. Salary and startup packages will be internationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications, training, and experience.

Application Instructions

To apply, submit a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a research plan, a minimum of three letters of reference, a statement of teaching interests, and a separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2024.
